It’s time for an announcement!

Starting this week, I’m going to try something different with my blog. Instead of having the 5 long sections posted once a week, I’m going to try separating them out into different posts. That means you might get a “Writing” post one day and an “Enjoying the Area” the next.

DUN DUN DUNNNN!!!

Before you get scared, let me share my reasoning with you:

First, I sometimes worry that, because my posts are so long and random, people might be missing sections. Either that or they might be getting bored. I also worry people quit reading early, which makes me sad, because the stuff at the end of my posts is just as important (to me) as the rest. By breaking it up into more focused chunks, people can pick and choose the posts they want to read.

Second, this will allow me to make more frequent updates. Instead of once a week, I’m going to try posting 3-4 times a week. The posts will naturally be shorter, but more often.

As I try this out, I’d love to know what you think. If it doesn’t work for y’all I’ll gladly go back to the other format. However, if the consensus is that this is better, I’ll try to stick with it.

OK now with that said, here’s my first short post:

It’s time for another announcement!

Over the past year, I’ve become familiar with an awesome website called The Write Practice (www.thewritepractice.com). The site posts daily articles on becoming a better writer, then assigns a writing practice. Members of the site can post their practices as comments and give feedback on each other.

For any aspiring writers out there, it’s a really great site with lots of helpful advice. On top of that, you get free critiquing partners. They’ve been ranked on many “Top 10 Writing Sites” several years in a row.

So what does that have to do with my announcement?

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll (extra ls added for emphasis), I submit an idea for an article and… they liked it! Consequently, I fleshed out and wrote the full article and sent it back, crossing my fingers.

Yesterday, I got an e-mail from them. Let me tell you, I was soooo nervous to open it! When I was finally able to click the message, this is what it said:

This is really great, Cody. We’d love to publish this.

I’m being published on the site!

YAY!!!!!

I’ll be giving reminders to everyone, but my article will be up on April 5th, along with the writing prompt I came up with.

One of my main goals for 2014 was to get published, anywhere. I didn’t care how big or small the publication was, I just wanted to get something out there. It looks like I achieved that goal before half the year was up.

Now I don’t want to make this seem like “I’ve made it.” It’s not like I found an agent or had my fiction published. And, while the site is amazing, they don’t get the traffic they deserve. But it’s a step. And I’m very grateful for it. And I’m very grateful to The Write Practice.
